The Badgers return home from a second-place finish in Maui to take on the Panthers from Prairie View A&M. Our basketball insiders preview and predict the outcome in Madison
Ben Thorson (@benjthorson): Prairie View A&M brings a 2-4 record to the Kohl Center, boasting wins over Fresno State and Jarvis Christian. The Panthers have already faced one top-25 opponent this season, as they lost to Saint Mary’s College by a score of 110-72.
Prairie View is led by a trio of scorers who average double digits; including junior Zachary Hamilton, who leads the Panthers with 13.8 points per game. Hamilton is coming off a 29-point performance in which he hit seven three-pointers in a 92-83 loss to Lamar.
The Badgers will have to be aware of Hamilton’s outside shot throughout the game, as it may be one the bright spot for the Panthers in the early going. Prairie View ranks 202nd in the country with 73.3 points per game, and ranks 324th with 82.5 points allowed per game.
Wisconsin should be able to control the boards; the Badgers rank 59th in the country with 40.8 rebounds per game compared to 33rpg from the Panthers. Wisconsin also ranks seventh in the country with a +14 rebound margin.
UW is coming off an underwhelming performance in the Maui Championship game against North Carolina. I expect a major bounce back from the Badgers and Bronson Koenig as they prepare for a matchup with Syracuse on Tuesday.
Thorson’s Prediction: BADGERS 79 Prairie View A&M 57
